Cape Town, South Africa is quite possibly one of the world’s greatest cities. When we started planning our trip, we knew we wanted to stay near the V&A Waterfront and stumbled on the Lawhill Luxury Apartments in Cape Town. We immediately fell in love! We’ve never stayed in an apartment on our travels, so this was going to be a first for us! As it turns out, our first travel apartment experience was mind-blowing.
The Lawhill Luxury Apartments Cape Town are located right at the heart of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. In a town built as a re-supply point for merchant vessels, the water takes on a special lore and mystique. And no place is closer to those seafaring merchant roots than the waterfront.
Rebuilt over the last 20 years, it is now a bustling mixed-use space for commercial fishing, fine-dining restaurants, ferries to Robben Island and shopping. Everything happens at the V&A. With over 23 million visitors a year, the V&A Waterfront is also the most visited attraction on the entire African continent.
This location makes this the perfect place to stay in Cape Town. The complex includes two buildings and a total of only 30 apartments in one-, two- and three-bedroom configurations. If you ever want to live life as a global, jet-setting, celebrity, these apartments are the perfect place for it. This was also the perfect place for us to experience our first luxury apartment rental!
The Apartment Complex
The Restaurant(s): The Lawhill Apartments are, fundamentally, apartments, not a hotel. Some services common to a hotel are not offered. For example, there is no on-site restaurant or lounge.
However, the apartments are immediately next to the One&Only resort, which has several wonderful restaurants and lounges, and Lawhill guests have access to these services. We made use of the One&Only resort for a delicious (and totally decadent) breakfast buffet.
The Concierge: The front desk at the apartment is staffed 24-hours per day. The desk staff is extremely helpful and can assist with any services you might need such as planning a day along the South Africa wine country (either the Stellenbosch Wine Route or in the Constantia Valley) or booking spa treatments. The Lawhill staff is strongly service oriented. I feel confident in saying they would have delivered on any possible request we might have made.
The Spa and Recreational Facilities: There is not an on-site spa, however, Lawhill guests can book treatments at the One&Only resort next door. However, the apartments have a pool for guest use.
The Apartment
The Rooms: Our two-bedroom apartment occupied one end of the building. Upon entering, the kitchen, dining room and living room were open in one large common area. To the left, was the “small” guest bedroom with a queen-sized bed, private bathroom with shower.
To the right of the entrance, past the dining room, was the large master bedroom with king-sized bed, balcony looking out onto the V&A Waterfront Marina and large bathroom (with shower, bathtub, etc.). The apartment was incredibly large and spacious for only two travelers, but we loved every minute of it!
The WiFi: The apartment had wifi.
The Television: There is a large-screen TV in the living room, although we didn’t use it.
The Bathroom
The Bathroom: The master bathroom was absolutely splendid. The large shower was heavily on a cool fall day. But Laura was particularly excited by the heated towel rack!
The Details
The Cost: During our visit, our apartment rented for $345 per night. (Check current prices here.)
The Location: The Lawhill Luxury Apartments is located in the heart of the V&A Waterfront, right off Dock Road in the V&A Marina Residential complex. The Lawhill Apartments are located just feet from the One&Only Cape Town resort (accessed via a private security gate).
We were able to walk along the marina to visit all the shops, restaurants and activities on Victoria Wharf. The apartments are well situated, while still slightly separate for privacy.
The Transportation: The staff can arrange transportation for guests, but the secure underground parking garage is perfect for guests arriving by private car. It is easy to get into and out of the V&A Marina complex and explore the surrounding areas of Cape Town. All of the sites on the waterfront are just a short walk away.
The Airport Transfer: The Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is located on the flatland east of downtown Cape Town and Table Mountain. The airport is 13 miles (20km) from the apartments. We allowed about 70 minutes to get from Lawhill to the airport and return our rental car.

The Final Verdict
Our stay at the Lawhill Apartments Cape Town was our first experience in an apartment rental. This experience has set a very high bar by which all future apartment rentals will be measured. If we had to describe the Lawhill Luxury Apartments in two words it would be: luxuriously comfortable. We loved every minute of our stay!
We were the guests of Lawhill Luxury Apartments. As always, all views are our own.
