A Texas Hill Country Home at the Manor Haus B&B

Cozy cabins, beautiful landscape, refined wines, and open space—these are the things I associate with the Texas Hill Country…and the Manor Haus B&B has them all. Situated in the heart of Fredericksburg’s wine country, the B&B is part of Messina Hof Hill Country’s estate just off the popular Wine Road 290. A stay here is an opportunity to sleep where you drink, relaxing in a quiet cabin while indulging in some of the 50+ varietals from Messina Hof winery, which has been making wine in Texas for 40 years.

On the grounds of the winery, the Manor Haus B&B is composed of four cabins, each decorated in its own style. The Messina and Hof cabins pay homage to the families of the owners with Italian and German décor, respectively.

Then there’s the Paris cabin and my home during my stay in Fredericksburg, Presidents Haus. From paintings of the Founding Fathers to photos and letters from the Presidents Bush, the theme is clear without being overdone.

Less than 15 minutes from the shops and restaurants of charming downtown Fredericksburg, the B&B at Messina Hof Hill Country is a tranquil retreat. In the Presidents Haus, the front room features an overstuffed leather sofa (for relaxing after a long day of shopping and wine tasting, of course) and a kitchenette with a microwave, fridge, and sink. In the back of the cabin, the large bedroom features a four-post bed and flat-screen TV. All this opens onto a quiet patio that’s the perfect spot for your morning breakfast.

Manor Haus B&B Review

The Manor House B&B is in an ideal spot to explore the best of the Hill Country. It is surrounded by some of the best wineries in Texas—the Messina Hof wine tasting room is only a few yards away—and is just a quick drive to Fredericksburg’s Main Street attractions or the famous music venue at Luckenbach, Texas.

If history is more your thing, the National Museum of the Pacific War is a Smithsonian-quality museum offering an in-depth look at the Pacific portion of World War II, and you can also visit the Texas White House in Stonewall where President Lyndon Johnson spent nearly 500 days during his presidency.

The Cabins

The Cabins: The Messina Hof bed and breakfast includes four cabins decorated in various styles. Three of the cabins accommodate two guests, and the Paris cabin can accommodate four guests in two queen-sized beds.

My cabin, Presidents Haus, had two separate rooms plus a bathroom and kitchenette. The front room was a sitting room with a comfortable couch, chairs, and a table. The kitchen area had a microwave, refrigerator, sink, and coffeemaker and was adjacent to the bathroom, which had a large walk-in shower.

The bedroom had a king-sized bed, TV, and bedside tables. A back door opened out onto the porch, which had a table and chairs and made a great place for appreciating the peaceful Hill Country. Sitting here, you’ll realize why a cabin makes one of the best options for accommodations in Fredericksburg.

The Breakfast: Breakfast was delivered to my cabin at check-in. I received an assortment of cereals, milk, orange juice, a delicious apple pastry, and—the highlight—sparkling Messina Hof wine, perfect for morning mimosas.

The Bed: The king-sized bed was great and had enough pillows to surround yourself in comfort.

The WiFi: The WiFi was perfect throughout the cabin.

The Television: There was a flat screen TV with an endless array of channels.

The Bathroom

The Bathroom: The bathroom had a sink, sizable walk-in shower, and toilet. It was large, so there was ample room to move around.

The Details

The Cost: Depending on the cabin, season, and day of the week, costs range from $90-360 per night.

The Location: In the middle of wine country, the Manor Haus B&B is 10 miles from the heart of Fredericksburg and 5 miles from Stonewall, Texas. It’s perfectly located for shopping, tastings at wineries and distilleries, visiting museums, and visiting other cute spots in the Hill Country.

The Transportation: Public transportation is not available. There is ample on-site parking right in front of the cabins.

The Airport Transfer: The B&B is 77 miles west of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and 65 miles north of San Antonio International Airport.
