The islands of New Zealand are some of the most remote in the world. As human habitation spread around the planet, this was one of the last places on earth to be settled. Much of that exploration comes from the local Maoris, who navigated the seas and settled the region. New Zealand is a naturalist and outdoor-lovers paradise. New Zealand’s two main islands (and a host of smaller islands) offer stunning volcanoes and glacial fjords to explore. In fact, the country is part of the Ring of Fire and still has active volcanoes and geological hotspots.

Popular activities in New Zealand include hiking, trekking, mountaineering and white water rafting in the mountains; scuba diving, surfing, kayaking, and sailing along the coasts; and enjoying the farm-fresh ingredients of the Kiwi culinary scene. The islands were also host to the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies, which are now popular tourist destinations in their own right – especially Hobbiton.
